Case Study

Document Management

A controlled document library.

With this project we started from scratch, laying the foundation for future work.

We had to build out complex versioning system that needed to integrate with a training management system as well as several disparate workflow and event tracking apps.

We went through several rounds of discussion about how to handle versioning

Challenges:

The current solution had become a junk drawer, bogged down with non-standard uses. We wanted to focus the product on being a reference library, not file storage.

Because clients' employees would be training on specific versions of documents, this meant we had to get versioning right from the beginning. We spent a lot of time interviewing stakeholders and current clients to identify their needs, and eventually came up with a system that allowed access to previous versions while still promoting the current version prominently.

This truly was a cross-discipline effort, involving not only design and product management, but also front-end development and architecture.
